Programmer notes
As volunteers come and eventually go, notes relating to the website's programming are also kept on-line. If you are the website programmer, PLEASE keep these notes up-to-date. If you are not the website programmer, these notes are of no great interest to you.
Remember - ALL FILE NAMES ARE CASE SENSITIVE !!!
How to do it ...
- Adding an additional rolling news ticker
- If you wish to add another ticker, you must ... Make a new copy of news-ticker.js, with a new name
- Create a news set of style sheet ids/classes eg #ticker_no_4
- Edit the new JS file so as to reference #ticker_no_4 e.g. var ticker = $("#ticker_no_4")
- And of course, link to the new JS in the header of the html doc where you have located your new ticker
- NB ... A ticker MUST have a header line followed by one detail line.
- Publishing Previous Results from the About AGC.XLS
- You must create the results HTML file, one worksheet at a time....
- Navigate to the required worksheet
- Select ONLY the text you wish to see in the HTML file
- Print area -> Set Print area
- File -> Save as web page
- In Windows Explorer, navigate to the destination folder, right-click Rename, Copy HTML filename to clipboard
- Back in MS-Excel, choose the folder to where you wish to save the update
- Choose Save-As filetype HTML
- Paste the file name
- Select Current Worksheet only
- Click Save
- Create a virtual tour
- Take your 360-degree panorama "partial" photos, overlapping of course (get any horizon horizontal!). Ensure these are in .JPG format.
- Use a bulk JPEG picture re-size utility (for speed) and resize all the photos so that the vertical dimension is 375 pixels (these re-sizing programs are available free on-line - they are often quicker to use than a fully-blown graphics editing package)
- Use a graphics editing package to create a blank picture file panorama "complete". Make this 375 pixels high, of the desired width (e.g. 3000px). Save this in BMP format.
- Open all your panorama pictures (or as many as your PC's memory allows). Choose the ones that overlap the best. Copy and paste (as new-selection) from the panorama-partial pictures into the panorama-complete. Yes, this is the very laborious part.

Event galleries - download zip files
Starting in May 2014, event galleries are also available as a zip download (rather than the previous need to download each photo individually). However, the photos are basically the majority of the website's size, and thus the concept of zipped galleries doubles the website's size.
Because of this, the zipped files are NOT stored in the same folder as the original .jpg photo files, but are all in a new folder page_all_galleries_zip. In this way, if you ever approach the web-hositing domain limit, you may easily release file space by deleting the page_all_galleries_zip folder.
Videos
Currently, two videos are uploaded (mentioned here if you wish to release file space):
- page_all_videos/Bahrain_Open_1978.mp4, 482MB
- page_all_videos/videos_agc/vide_ag_01.mp4, 68.2MB
